Description

Softness in Red

Merlot is a grape variety that produces a wine with aromas of red fruits and smoke. It is accentuated by the sandy soils of our estate, giving it a soft and round character. Merlot is a wine with a dark ruby hue, an expressive and pure nose, with notes of prunes and a smoky toasted character brought by the barrel. The palate is consistent and straightforward. The fruitiness is present from the start, and it has a slightly tart character (blackberry and blackcurrant).

Food and wine pairings:

  • Roast lamb
  • Pasta with tomato sauce
  • Camembert cheese
  • Margherita pizza
  • Bolognese lasagna

Service advice:

Merlot is a red wine that can be served a bit warmer to highlight its rich and fruity aromas. A serving temperature of 16 to 18°C is recommended.

History of the grape variety:

Merlot is also native to the Bordeaux region of France, where it is often blended with Cabernet Sauvignon. The name “Merlot” comes from the French word for “blackbird,” a bird that is attracted to the ripe grapes of this variety. Merlot is appreciated for its ability to produce soft and fruity red wines that can be enjoyed young but also have good aging potential. It is now widely grown in many wine regions around the world, including California, Ticino, and Vully.
